First Things

If I take a casual look at the night sky, I am likely to see various illuminated bodies dotting a vast darkness, In the contemporary mindset, it would be effortless to say that such an experience – at least in its most basic moment – would be a “scientific” one, or an experience of “nature.” Easily categorized at that level. But if several other people come along and look at the same sky, there might be discussions, and not without some, trepidation, of “dark matter,” or life forms beyond the earthly, or whether or not people will eventually populate other planets, or the unsophisticated ancient beliefs about Mt. Olympus or Heaven.

For reasons to be explained elsewhere, I have an eagerness to arrange materials topically, as I hint at in the summary of the subcategories within “Bounds.” However, human experiences and the meanings we assign to them entail complexities, nuances, and changing contextualizations that very often “crash the boundaries” of human analysis.

The Alpha section here, as with most dictionaries, indices, encyclopedia, etc., acknowledges that some topics – as well as some deep analyses of seemingly simple topics – are so generalized, comprehensive, or multi-layered that the mind must surrender to its own analytical limitations.

To minimize over over-simplify some matters simply because they do not “fit” our “system” of meanings can be a kind of IGNOR-ance-producing laziness. Therefore, at a minimum, some material is included in the Alpha section rather than the stricter categories I have made available.

Just two additional minor considerations about Alpha.

  1. A reader here will sometimes encounter the acronym “CNSS.” It is merely a reminder that certain topics or creative works can not be confined within any one of the Bounds categories – Culture, Nature, Soul, Symbol. “CNSS” is a shorthand way of acknowledging that a given topic sometimes must be treated as if it were its own broad category.
  2. Because their usefulness is standardized, the Alpha section here also exploits the established uses of conventional dictionaries, encyclopediae, and a glossaries of specialized or personalized terms, sometimes including neologisms.

The Encyclopedia of Maredi, proper

Note: this encyclopedia will constantly grow and be revised until the seed which is my body has been planted.

  • Abyss
  • Aletheia / Aletheic
    • aletheia (n): an approach to knowledge and understanding that reflects the courage to face Reality without bias or self-defensiveness, especially in the midst of conflict or crisis). aletheic (adj): a person, attitude, action or other entity that cultivates or exhibits this approach.
  • Alpha
    • The title of the first major content section of this system. The Maredi system, like any general categorical system, systematizes (organizes) – not entities and aspects of entities – but perceptions and aspects of perception, invoked meanings and aspects of meanings, that stand in the place of actual entities. Though useful in various ways, the boundaries between such categories are frail and arbitrary in comparison to those of the Essential Reality(ies) actually constituted by The… (to whatever degree something like boundaries exist therein). Therefore, to retain some modicum of structural convenience within the Maredi system, many invocations of Iueeus must be organized in an alphabetical arrangement. See also, CNSS
  • Bounds
  • Christian
  • CNSS
    • This acronym stands for Culture, Nature, Soul, Symbol, the four major subcategories of the Bounds category. Many iinvocations are “boundary crashers.” That is, they represent nuanced meanings or contextualizations extensive enough to complicate strict adherence to this (or any?) categorization effort. See also, Alpha. In such cases alphabetization and use of the CNSS acronym are complimentary.

  • Poetry
    • If you use the word “poetry” in conversation, it will generally be met by a combination of rolled eyes and yawns. Why? Because the word is now associated with only two types of writing – both of which in our day have had most traces of true poetry diluted by glop. The two types are:

    • (1) “free verse” – in which regular prose gets broken into poetic-looking separate phrases simply because it looks more consequential; e.g.:
    • Today you
      Broke
      my heart. Cruelty.
Oh how how the waves crashed.
    • (2) simple rhymes and methodical rhythms that have a vague association with the great poetry of the distant past but are structurally indistinct from mere nursery rhymes; e.g.:
    • Today when you bantered with me,
you meant it as a joke.
But it was cruel. I was a fool.
      Today my sad heart broke.
  • Real / Reality

  • The Two Realms
    • The Human Experience, both Individual and Cultural, takes place in one environment made up of two interacting realms, the Explicit and the Implicit.
    • To provide further explanations of the of the two:
      • The Explicit is generally perceived and routinely agreed upon via broadly conventional perceptive template, while the Implicit is associated with can be summarized by labels such as mysterious or hidden or deep or, at times, incomprehensible.
      • The sides of this duality have many names, reflecting numerous seemingly disparate approached to the subject. The Explicit might be referred to as nature, the material world, surface experience, simple life, conscious awareness, and various descriptions using words like normal, conventional, routine, ordinary, and the like. The Implicit invokes connections to religion or spirituality, psychology, the occult, secret lives, motivations, agendas, energies, repressed dynamics, etc.
    • Why does the subject matter? Why indeed.
